I think that the word "diaspora" evokes a certain sense of importance not to us, but to the Jews. Again, when you say "Philippine diaspora," it doesn't evoke as much meaning to us. It may be inappropriate to use the word <i>Diaspora</i> esp. in places where the term is considered <i>politically incorrect</i>.
